42.80 km elevated Orange Line to connect Todi Mod and Prahaladpura across Jaipur.
Register InterestJaipur's long-awaited Phase 2 metro expansion has finally moved from planning documents to construction sites. The project proposes a new 42.80 km metro rail line called the Orange Line with 36 stations connecting Todi Mod and Prahaladpura. A note on figures: official Government of India communication states 41 km and 36 stations for Phase 2, while the underlying DPR and most trade coverage cite 42.80 km, so treat 41 km as the sanctioned figure and 42.80 km as the design-stage figure until RMRCL publishes a final alignment.
The political and financial groundwork was laid earlier this year. The Union Cabinet approved Phase 2 in April 2026 as a 41 km north-south corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations at a sanctioned cost of Rs 13,037.66 crore, targeted for completion by September 2031. The ceremonial launch followed soon after: PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Jaipur Metro Phase 2 on 4 July 2026, moving the long-delayed Orange Line from paper to construction. Phase 2 is being built by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan, while Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) continues to operate Phase 1.
The scale of the expansion is significant against the current network. Jaipur runs 11.64 km of metro today, and by September 2031 it is sanctioned to run more than 52 km — a fourfold network expansion inside a single planning decade. On ridership, the Cabinet's own assessment underlines the demand case: Jaipur Metro Phase 1 records an average daily ridership of 60,000 passengers on the shorter but critical 11.64 km corridor, and with the commissioning of Phase 2, the metro network is expected to witness a manifold increase in ridership, substantially enhancing the share of public transport in Jaipur.
Geographically, the Orange Line is designed to stitch together Jaipur's most important activity centres. The Phase 2 corridor will provide connectivity to key activity nodes including Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital and Stadium, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar. It includes underground stations at the airport area and will integrate with the operational Phase 1 through planned interchanges and feeder systems. On the ground, Chandpole station is planned as the interchange where the Orange Line meets the Pink Line, so passengers can switch between the two corridors.
Construction is proceeding in stages rather than as one continuous build. The first priority section is 12 km long from Prahladpura to Pinjrapol Gaushala, having 10 elevated stations in between, and a Letter of Acceptance of Rs. 918 crores was issued for this corridor. Civil works on the priority section run from late 2026.
For homebuyers, the real estate signal from a metro corridor is well established but plays out in stages. Metro construction affects property values in a fairly predictable pattern: prices tend to move twice, once when construction visibly begins and again when trains actually start running, and Phase 2 has now crossed the first of those points. Analysts tracking the corridor point to specific micro-markets: areas along the corridor, particularly Tonk Road, Sitapura, Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar, are the ones to watch. A separate market analysis identifies a similar southern stretch as the strongest opportunity: GHAR.tv Intelligence analysis points to the southern Tonk Road belt (Prahladpura, Sitapura, JECC, Kumbha Marg, Pratap Nagar and Jagatpura-adjacent nodes) as the highest-conviction corridor.
On price expectations specifically, multiple market trackers converge on a similar range. Property values in the Tonk Road stretch are estimated to increase by almost 15-20% upon the completion of the metro phase, making it an extremely lucrative choice for investments. A wider study of metro-linked corridors nationally supports this trend: historically, metro corridors have led to a 15-30% appreciation in real estate values within a 1-2 km radius of the stations. For buyers evaluating Jaipur right now, the takeaway is straightforward — the Orange Line has cleared its two biggest hurdles, Cabinet approval and foundation-stone construction, and the corridor localities are entering the phase where early positioning typically pays off before completion in 2031.
