Aqua Line Metro Extension to Gaur Chowk: What It Means for Greater Noida West

Greater Noida West, home to over five lakh residents across dozens of gated townships, has long been cut off from the metro network despite sitting minutes away from the Aqua Line corridor. That is set to change. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has moved a formal proposal to extend the Aqua Line into the heart of this micro-market, with Gaur Chowk as one of the key terminal points.

According to recent reports, Noida Metro Rail Corporation is planning a 7.5-km extension of the Aqua Line — from Sector 51, Noida to Kisan Chowk (Sector 4, Greater Noida West). The five stations on the new Aqua Line extension are Sector 61, Sector 70, Sector 122, Sector 123, and Greater Noida Sector 4 (Kisan Chowk) — the station commonly known as Gaur Chowk. Five new Metro stations will connect over 5 lakh residents of Greater Noida West societies who currently have no Metro access.

The project carries a significant price tag. The Rs 1,500 crore project will be jointly funded by the Central Government, the Uttar Pradesh Government, and the Noida and Greater Noida authorities. Approval has moved through an important procedural stage: NMRC MD Krishna Karunesh presented the utility plan at the Public Investment Board (PIB) meeting — a mandatory step before construction approval. Once cleared, the corridor is expected to move quickly into execution, since construction will begin after PIB approval and take approximately two years to complete, meaning Greater Noida West residents can expect Metro access by 2028–2029.

What makes this extension particularly significant is its onward connectivity. The line runs separately from the RRTS but will connect to the proposed Ghaziabad-Jewar Airport RRTS corridor — creating a travel loop across three cities. In practical terms, this could give Greater Noida West a rare multimodal advantage: residents would be able to reach Jewar Airport via two routes — Metro from their sector to Kisan Chowk, then the RRTS to Jewar — creating India's first end-to-end public transport route from a major residential township directly to an international airport.

Some reports also point to an earlier-stage plan being fast-tracked in parallel. Per a Times of India report cited by industry analysts, NMRC is preparing a fresh DPR for Phase 1 with 4 stations — Sector 61, 70, 123, and 4 (also known as Gaur Chowk) — with Sector 61 expected to work as the interchange with Delhi's Blue Line. This phased approach suggests planners are prioritising the segment closest to Gaur Chowk first, given the density of existing housing stock in that pocket. Notably, Gaur Chowk is close to many luxury societies and daily movement points, making it a natural anchor for the first operational stretch.

For homebuyers, the takeaway is straightforward but requires patience. The Aqua Line Metro extension in Greater Noida West does not have a confirmed completion date yet, as it is still in the 'revised DPR and approval' stage. Even so, real estate observers expect an early price reaction once ground work becomes visible, since the Aqua Line extension is expected to impact property prices in Noida Extension positively, by increasing interest in gated communities close to proposed stations. Beyond property values, the bigger shift is functional: the proposed route, extending from Noida Sector-51 to Greater Noida West Sector-4, will provide metro access to over five lakh residents living across various societies in Greater Noida West, and once approved, the project will improve connectivity and reduce daily traffic congestion between Noida, Greater Noida, and Gaur Chowk.

For developers active in the corridor, including M3M with its Noida-Greater Noida Expressway portfolio, the extension reinforces a broader NCR trend — metro-linked micro-markets command a premium, and Gaur Chowk's addition to the Aqua Line map puts Greater Noida West firmly on that list once construction is confirmed.
