Gurgaon Metro Construction Update 2026

Gurugram's first home-grown metro network is finally taking physical shape on the ground. The project, managed by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), creates a 28.5 km "loop" designed to connect the existing Millennium City Centre (formerly HUDA City Centre) back to Cyber City. The main line spans 26.65 km with a 1.85 km spur to the Dwarka Expressway, and all 27 stations along the route are elevated, running through Old Gurgaon, key sectors, and into the New Gurgaon commercial belt.

As of mid-2026, the project has crossed an important construction milestone. As of July 2026, the overall project has achieved around 11% physical progress, with GMRL Managing Director Chander Shekhar Khare personally reviewing station designs and inspecting piling and pier erection work on Phase 1. The first package, worth ₹1,503 crore and covering the 15.2 km stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is currently under execution, with casting yards operational and major civil works progressing between the GMDA office and Hero Honda Chowk. Over 900 pillars are being cast on this stretch, and the contract was awarded to a joint venture of Dilip Buildcon and RBL.

GMRL is planning to begin U-girder launching by the end of August 2026, marking the shift from foundation work to the visible elevated viaduct stage. However, not every stretch is moving at the same pace — utility shifting on a 2.2 km section has caused a localised delay, with clearance now expected only by November 2026 as authorities relocate underground cables and pipelines before construction can resume there.

Phase 2, which extends the corridor roughly 13 km from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, is currently at the tendering stage. The World Bank has approved a ₹1,409-crore loan for this phase, which carries an estimated project cost of around ₹2,700 crore, and the tender is presently under evaluation by senior GMRL and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) officials. Tenders for this second half of the loop were expected to open around March 2026, with civil contracts to follow shortly after.

One notable change came with the planned rail spur to Gurgaon Railway Station. Originally envisioned as a combined 1.8 km branch line, the World Bank and GMRL have now decided to treat it as a separate project so it doesn't hold up the main corridor's completion target. In the interim, commuters will rely on a skywalk or feeder buses to bridge the last-mile gap to the railway station.

On timelines, official estimates suggest the Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 stretch is targeted for readiness by August 2028, while other project trackers point to a mid-2027 target for parts of the loop to open — a gap that reflects the phased nature of civil works, tendering, and utility clearances still underway. GMRL projects a daily ridership of over 5 lakh passengers once the full loop is operational, connecting residential catchments in Old Gurgaon and New Gurgaon with the Cyber City employment hub and interchanging with the Delhi Metro Yellow Line at Millennium City Centre.

For homebuyers, the corridor matters most along its Old Gurgaon stations, the Dwarka Expressway spur near Sector 101, and the Cyber City end near Golf Course Extension Road and Sector 65 — all micro-markets where M3M has an active presence. Even in an under-construction state, metro announcements typically accelerate footfall to project sales offices and shift buyer preference toward last-mile-connected addresses, making 2026-27 a period worth watching for anyone evaluating new bookings along this belt.
