The Noida Metro's Aqua Line is recording its strongest ridership numbers since it opened in January 2019, and the timing coincides with fresh momentum on one of its most anticipated expansions — the link to Botanical Garden. Data from the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) shows that initial ridership of 11,625 commuters has surged to an average of 63,079 daily passengers by January 2026, marking around a 442% increase. The line's busiest stretch so far came in September 2025, when the line recorded its highest monthly ridership in September 2025, with an average of 74,370 daily users, a surge that coincided with the UP International Trade Show which drew additional commuter traffic to the city.
The 29.7 km corridor, which runs parallel to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, connects 21 stations across both cities. The Noida Metro's Aqua Line, operational since January 2019, has become a cornerstone of urban transit for Noida and Greater Noida, connecting key residential, commercial, and industrial areas, easing congestion and promoting sustainable growth. Earlier single-day records reflect the same upward trend — the Noida-Greater Noida Metro established its all-time highest single-day ridership figure of 52,696, set on November 30 in a prior reporting cycle, a number that has since been surpassed multiple times as the network matures.
One persistent commuter complaint has been the walk between the Aqua Line's Sector 51 station and the Delhi Metro Blue Line's Sector 52 station. NMRC and the Noida Authority are working on a fix, though it hasn't been smooth. Commuters have noted the gap between Sector 51 Aqua Line and Sector 52 Delhi Metro Blue Line stations, and the Noida Authority is constructing a skywalk to link the two, but the project has been delayed due to a structural pillar near Sector 52. Officials are working on resolving the issue, but a revised completion date has not been announced.
The bigger story for homebuyers, however, is what comes next. The Union Cabinet has greenlit the extension of Noida Metro's Aqua Line, enhancing connectivity from Botanical Garden to Noida Sector 142, an 11.6-kilometre expansion featuring eight new stations, aimed at easing congestion and supporting Noida's growth. The project carries a real budget and timeline attached to it: the 11.6-kilometre extension will include the construction of eight new elevated stations and will be implemented by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation Limited at an estimated cost of Rs 2,254 crore, with a completion timeline of four years.
The new stations will run through some of Noida's fastest-developing residential belts. Eight new elevated stations will be built, including Botanical Garden, Sector-44, Sector-97, Sector-105, Sector-108, Sector-93 and Panchsheel Balak Inter College. Botanical Garden itself is set to become the network's most important junction — Botanical Garden will become a major triple-interchange hub, connecting the Aqua Line with the Delhi Metro's Blue and Magenta Lines. That single interchange will let commuters move between Noida, Greater Noida, and central Delhi without switching to road transport, a change industry voices have flagged for years. The extension plugs a critical connectivity gap between Noida and Delhi, long flagged by daily commuters and industry.
Property analysts tracking the corridor expect the announcement to move buyer sentiment quickly. Real estate markets along the corridor may witness renewed demand, particularly in sectors such as 93, 105, 108 and 142 with premium residential developments, while commercial hubs and IT corridors along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway could gain from improved workforce accessibility and metro-led footfall. This follows a broader pattern already visible on the existing Aqua Line, where NMRC is not stopping at one extension. NMRC plans to expand the Aqua Line through three corridors — from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V, from Sector 51 to Sector 142, and from Depot Station to Boraki — and while approvals for the first two are pending at the central level, the Depot-to-Boraki extension has recently been cleared, with tenders to be issued soon.
For homebuyers evaluating Noida Expressway addresses, the combination of rising daily ridership and a funded, cabinet-approved extension is a meaningful signal — metro access is no longer theoretical for sectors that were previously dependent solely on road connectivity. Projects positioned along or near this expanding corridor, including M3M's developments in Sector 94 and the wider Expressway belt, stand to benefit directly from the improved last-mile access once the new stations open.
