Shahberi Double-Decker Flyover: Rs 900 Crore Boost for Greater Noida West

Greater Noida West's most congested corridor is finally getting a fix. The proposed Shahberi Double-Decker Flyover, pegged at nearly Rs 900 crore, is being positioned as the first structure of its kind in the city, and it is designed to permanently ease the bottleneck between Greater Noida West and Crossings Republik. The project would link Eteda Roundabout located on the 130 metre road to Crossings Republik.

The scale of the project has grown since it was first conceived. The updated estimate of total project cost is around 900 crores, more than double the previous budget, which had set aside 400 crores for a regular elevated road only. The revision wasn't cosmetic — it came from a ground-level engineering constraint. Authorities initially wanted an elevated road with four lanes, two in each direction, but a feasibility study found that the existing road through Shahberi is just 14 meters wide, insufficient for a standard four-lane elevated structure. That's what pushed planners toward a stacked, double-decker design instead of a conventional flyover.

In a significant development, the project has moved from proposal to formal approval. The Greater Noida Authority approved the first phase of the Rs 756.01 crore double-decker road project connecting the 130-metre-wide road in Greater Noida West to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway during its 144th board meeting held on 3 September. The double-decker design was devised specifically because the existing corridor is only 12 metres wide, too narrow for a standard elevated road, prompting planners to build a stacked structure instead.

On ground, the flyover will function as two separate traffic decks rather than a single wide carriageway. One deck will carry traffic from Greater Noida West to Crossings Republik while the other will handle vehicles moving in the opposite direction. The flyover is estimated to be 2.5 km long, stretching from Eteda Roundabout in Greater Noida West to Crossings Republik through Shahberi. Execution responsibility and funding are shared across agencies. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be responsible for its execution and completion by 2028, since it meets the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and a detailed project report (DPR) is required before construction begins. The costs are to be shared between the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

For the thousands of residents who use this stretch daily, the practical benefit is straightforward. The corridor is expected to provide much-needed relief from daily traffic congestion for lakhs of commuters travelling between Ghaziabad, Crossing Republik, Greater Noida West and Delhi. While no official commute-time figures have been released, the intent is clear. The project is expected to ease daily traffic bottlenecks and create a more efficient transport network for the rapidly growing residential catchment.

Developers active in the micro-market have welcomed the move. Salil Kumar, Director of Marketing & Business Management at CRC Group, noted that "the proposed Shahberi Double-Decker Flyover is a significant infrastructure initiative that will further strengthen Greater Noida West's connectivity and urban ecosystem" and that it will provide seamless access to key corridors such as NH-9, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Crossings Republik and Greater Noida. Manoj Gaur, CMD of Gaurs Group, was equally direct, calling it "a much-awaited and welcome development for Greater Noida West" that will directly benefit Gaur City, which is home to more than 5 lakh residents.

For homebuyers evaluating Greater Noida West, the flyover adds one more data point to an already improving connectivity map — but it shouldn't be the only one. As one property advisory put it, a proposed infrastructure project should not be treated as a guaranteed reason for property appreciation. The better approach is to evaluate current connectivity, exact location, price, legal status, amenities and future infrastructure together. That said, the broader trend is unmistakable. Infrastructure has been the biggest driver of Greater Noida West's growth, and every major connectivity upgrade has enhanced the region's residential appeal and investment potential.
