Greater Noida's First Double-Decker Road Clears Authority

The Greater Noida Authority approved the first phase of a Rs 756.01 crore double-decker road project connecting the 130-metre-wide road in Greater Noida West to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway during its 144th board meeting held on 3 September.

This ambitious project will extend from Ekmurti Chowk to Shahberi and will connect to the Meerut Expressway, or NH-9. The innovative infrastructure solution emerged after a feasibility study revealed that the existing road through Shahberi is just 14 metres wide whilst a standard four-lane elevated road requires a minimum width of 15 metres, prompting planners to devise a creative double-decker design that can be installed in a 12-metre-wide corridor.

The flyover will feature two distinct decks, where one will carry traffic from Greater Noida West to Crossings Republik whilst the other will handle vehicles going in the opposite direction. Construction will be done at a cost of Rs 1280 crore. The Yamuna Expressway Authority, Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority, and GDA will share the project costs equally.

This road will connect Greater Noida's 130-meter-wide road directly to the Meerut Expressway, providing better connectivity for people travelling to Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. The corridor is expected to provide much-needed relief from daily traffic congestion for lakhs of commuters travelling between Ghaziabad, Crossing Republik, Greater Noida West and Delhi.

Industry experts believe the project will accelerate real estate growth. According to Manish Jaiswal, CEO, Eldeco Group, large-scale infrastructure investments such as the proposed Shahberi double-decker flyover are essential for supporting the next phase of growth in Greater Noida West. The region has witnessed rapid residential development over the past few years, and improved road infrastructure will ensure that this growth remains sustainable. Better connectivity between Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi will enhance daily commuting, encourage commercial activity and make the area even more attractive for homebuyers and investors.
