NHAI Upgrades Critical Bridge Infrastructure

The NHAI is replacing two ageing two-lane bridges with new six-lane bridges each, marking a significant infrastructure upgrade on NH-44 in Haryana. Both minor bridges were identified as bottlenecks on the NH-44 and considered accident-prone areas. The project targets two critical locations: the Pipli bridge on the Sarasvati River and two minor bridges near Dhantauri village in Shahabad.

The old bridge near Pipli was in a dilapidated condition, following which the NHAI decided to get the new bridge constructed. The new three-lane bridge is being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of Rs 5.4 crore. This upgrade directly addresses decades-old structural constraints that had created congestion and safety hazards for commuters traveling between Delhi and Ambala.

The reconstruction aligns with NHAI's broader modernization strategy under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative. By replacing narrow two-lane minor bridges with six-lane capacity structures, the authority aims to improve throughput and reduce travel times on one of India's busiest national highways. The Dhantauri bridges are located at a distance of nearly 1 km towards Ambala, positioning them strategically within the Delhi-Ambala corridor.
